It all started when you were conceived. 500 million sperm cells had to swim about 20 cm. It would take them about 24 hrs. Some got lost, some died and some gave up. But only one won the race. YOU WON! You were the strongest, fastest, best. You were conceived a Winner. You were not created to be a loser, but a Winner. At conception you proved to the world and to yourself, that you are a Winner. That is what you are. You may not think it or believe it. But it is a fact of your life.
You have a race to run. And you were born to win it. You must win your race; achieve your purpose – that’s why you’re here. What you did at conception is the equivalent of running 800 Comrades Marathons (87 kilometers) in 24 hrs. It's like running a 70,000 kilometer race in 24 hrs. You can do anything! Concept in a humorous but empowering way during one of my motivational speeches.
Never quit. Even when it gets tough. And it will get tough. You will face challenges and difficulties as you start working out your potential. You will face all sorts of obstacles. Obstacles help us to grow. They are “challenges”. Not “problems”. They make us better. They are opportunities for improvement. They are the keys to releasing our potential. Obstacles are the catalysts which cause men to find solutions, thus releasing what is inside.
Are you facing a challenge right now? This challenge has come along to help you become a better person and train you in a new area that you need to overcome. This is an opportunity to prove to the world and to yourself that you are an achiever. To let out your potential. When challenges come your way, you want to use a key phrase to set your mind up to face the challenge constructively with a winning attitude. You can say, ‘No problem’, or “Isn't that fascinating”. Here’s my favourite “Man that’s exciting!” When I’ve just received a speeding fine. I say, “Man that's exciting!” When I’ve lost
the sale, “Man that’s exciting!” When my kids are driving me up the wall. “Man that’s exciting!” Am I excited? NO!!
You are a winner! Challenges build character and make you stronger. Challenges refine you like gold.
Struggle and resistance produce toughness in the muscles. In the same way challenges produces toughness in the mind. James Buckham says, "Trials, temptations, disappointments – all these are helps instead of hindrances, if one uses them rightly. They not only test the fibre of a character, but strengthen it. Every conquered temptation represents a new fund of moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before." We hang in there and never give up because success and the releasing of our potential is the reward at the end of perseverance.
You're unique and one of a kind. All too often we don't really take into consideration just how special we are. Sure we pat others on the back for a job well done, but when was the last time you gave yourself some well-deserved credit? I hope that you'll take just a second (15 or 20 minutes would even be better) to think about all the things that go into making you the 'special' person that you are. On the surface you might not realize it, but there is simply no one that is exactly like you. Now that is powerful stuff!
Your presence is a present to the world. You see, each of us is our own person. We each have had life
shape us in different ways. We've experienced different things that all go into making us who we are as human beings. However, no matter what has happened to us in our lives we need to (no matter how many times you have to remind yourself) keep telling ourselves that we do in fact make the world a better place because of our being! You may not believe me, but I assure you this is fact!
You’re not born to lose, you’re made to win. It’s not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference. Winners have simply formed the habit of doing things losers don't like to do. Failures are finger posts on the road to achievement. Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. The greatest calamity is not to have failed, but to have failed to try. The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.
Some people are what I call ―The Plan B people. While I value the importance of being prudent and prepared, some people would always go to option 2 when they have not exhausted their efforts into their original plan. Statesman and businessman George Shultz says: 'The minute you start talking about what you are going to do if you lose, YOU have lost.'' Don‘t quit too soon.
